Cory Schneider has been a mainstay in the NHL for nearly a decade, yet those who do not follow hockey too closely may now be getting exposed to the former All Star and first round draft pick through his community work and an appearance in a new Investors Bank television commercial that promotes the New Jersey Devils Checking Account (see video below).
Schneider, a native of Marblehead, Massachusetts, has been with the Devils since 2013 and now makes his in-season home close by the Investors Bank headquarters. Selecting him for the television commercial was an easy decision, according to Investors Bank Vice President and Director of Marketing Scott Agnoli. “Cory is one of the most visible players on the Devils. He was great to work with, a professional in every way, and he takes an active role in giving back,” said Agnoli. “Helping the community is as important to him as it is to us, so it was a natural fit.”
In addition to helping the Devils in a variety of community-oriented events, Schneider and his wife Jill started their own program, Cory’s Keepers, which Investors Bank helps to sponsor. At nearly every Devils home game, the program donates premium tickets to a local organization that benefits children. After the game, Schneider meets with his guests. Since the program started, the Schneiders have welcomed dozens of school, community development, charity, and hockey groups.
“I’m very grateful that Investors truly supports the Cory’s Keepers program. We’ve worked together to bring many young fans to our games, who may not otherwise be able to attend,” said Schneider.
“The coolest perk about playing in the NHL has to be the fact that people and kids look up to you and are genuinely excited to meet you,” said Schneider. “I never thought in a million years (and sometimes still don’t believe it) that I would ever be able to give kids excitement and energy about the game.”
In addition to serving as a role model for Americans who want to play hockey at a high level, Schneider can proudly refer to himself as a true former “student-athlete.” In 2004, the Boston Bruins awarded Schneider with the John Carlton Memorial Trophy, given every year to local high school seniors who “combine exceptional hockey skills with academic excellence.” That same year, he also received the Yale Bowl at his high school’s graduation ceremony, which recognizes the senior who has attained the highest proficiency in both scholarship and athletics. Before graduating from Boston College with a degree in Finance, Schneider was named to three consecutive Hockey East All-Academic teams.
Concerning the new checking account and its promotion, Schneider had this to say: “We had a great time filming the commercial and we hope that shows. It’s great that fans can show their support outside of the rink and earn great Devils prizes. As the season gets underway, it’s exciting to be able to work with great partners like Investors.”
“We are glad to have Cory on the Investors Bank team, as I know the Devils are, too,” said Agnoli.
