Investors Foundation Grants Support Holiday Cheer

Spirit of the Holidays Assists Families in Need, Impacted by HIV/AIDS

ROBBINSVILLE, New Jersey – Before Kevin Todd passed away in 1997 after a long battle with HIV/AIDS, he worried that his family would forget him. Youngest sister Lisa O’Neill assured her brother the family would never forget him and they would find a way to honor his memory. Spirit of the Holidays was created in memory of Kevin Todd.

From providing holiday support for one family of eight with 24 gifts and a food basket in 1999, grants from the Investors Foundation and Roma Community Bank Foundation totaling $5,000 assisted the organization in sending 1,425 gifts and a food basket with a $30 ShopRite gift card to 285 individuals from 95 families.

Spirit of the Holidays applied for the grants from the Investors and Roma Community Bank Foundations, which support non-profit organizations that enrich the diverse communities served by Investors Bank. Roma Bank became part of Investors Bank in December 2013.

“Because of the grants from the Investors and Roma Community Bank Foundations,” explained Spirit of the Holidays Director/Founder Lisa O’Neill, “we were able to provide each family with a $30 gift card from ShopRite, in addition to the food basket. We could not have done that without the grants.” O’Neill also noted that Investors Bank employees joined other corporate volunteers, students from Lenape and Seneca High Schools, and community and church members in wrapping and packing the gifts. “We are so grateful to everyone from Investors – they have been so supportive and helpful,” said O’Neill.

Carol Eckert, Assistant Vice President and Medford Branch Manager, along with Carol-Anne Peacock, Assistant Vice President and Maple Shade Branch Manager, and Hector Melendez, Assistant Vice President and Voorhees Branch Manager, presented the Foundation checks to O’Neill at the Come Alive Church, where everyone had gathered to sort and wrap presents. “Investors is proud to be able to assist the Spirit of the Holidays in providing gifts and food to families who have enough to deal with as they battle HIV/AIDS,” said Eckert. “This time of year often is particularly difficult for people who have medical bills and are trying to give their families wonderful holidays. We hope these grants will help them celebrate the holidays with a little more this year. This organization truly has achieved its mission in celebrating the life and memory of Kevin Todd.”
